I started tutoring A-Level Physics while completing postgraduate study and have continued for five years. I’m especially interested in astrophysics and nuclear physics, so those lessons tend to become quite lively! For revision, though, I keep things practical. We identify weaker chapters, work through questions and look closely at mark schemes. I also spend time on wording because students can understand a concept perfectly well and still miss a mark through an imprecise explanation.

I’m a qualified Physics teacher with more than five years of experience, including several years teaching A-Level classes. I tend to work well with students who have reached a plateau and cannot quite work out why their marks are not improving. We go through their papers carefully, spot recurring errors and then practise similar problems. Electricity and electromagnetism are topics I particularly like teaching, as good diagrams can make an enormous difference to understanding them.

Physics made much more sense to me once I stopped treating equations as things to memorise, and that’s roughly how I teach it now. I’ve worked with A-Level students for three years, mostly online, and I like using short questions throughout the lesson rather than leaving everything until the end. Mechanics is probably my favourite topic. I’m also quite fussy about units and significant figures because they’re easy marks to lose and even easier ones to fix with a little practice.
